ABOUT COSTA RICA

The foundation is located in a central area of San José in a neighborhood called Bajo Los Anonos. It is just a 5-minutes drive from the city center. Lifting Hands, although it is situated in a central region, the Bajo de los Anonos is forgotten by the rest of the people and Lifting Hands is the only safe zone in the community, so they call it a community home.

Local culture

Local culture is rich with traditions that govern daily life. Family is very important for Costa Ricans, and many of them still live as extended family units, with grandparents, parents, children and siblings, all living under one roof. Costa Ricans pride themselves on being friendly, helpful and easygoing.

Costa Ricans take pride in their appearance and dress well. In business situations, both men and women dress formally but not as conservatively as in North America. Outside the office, men and women dress informally. For example, jeans, t-shirts and tennis for boys and jeans, a blouse and sandals or Converse for girls. If you want to go out at night (you can!), women’s jeans are often accompanied by stiletto heels and heavy makeup.
